Staff Absence, Leave of Absence etc
All requests to be out of school or for any form of leave of absence should be made directly to the Rector as far in advance as possible. This helps in the planning of staffing and cover for classes.
Information about staff out of school is recorded on our class cover planning form used by the Depute responsible for allocated cover for classes.
Staff who have been given approval to attend courses, necessary appointments, meetings or any other appropriate activity should plan work for their classes, to be left in an obvious place in the classroom or with a head of department. The work set should also be recorded in the Planner of the absent teacher.
Please note the following important points:-
- If you are unable to attend school because of illness, please notify the school as soon as possible, and before 8.30am on the first day, indicated the anticipated length of absence.
- If you are unable to attend school due to illness, please notify the school immediately, ideally by 8.30 am, and if possible, indicate how long your absence is likely to be. If you are off work between one and 7 calendar days, to preserve your entitlement to Statutory Sick Pay, you must obtain and complete the Moray Council SELF CERTIFICATION FORM which is available from the school office. If your absence lasts more than 7 calendar days, or as soon as you know you will be off for more than 7 days, you should let the school office know so that they can send you a self certification form. On the 8th day of absence you are required to get a medical certificate from your doctor, which you should forward to the school office without delay. Thereafter, continue to get sick notes from your doctor at regular intervals and forward them to the school until you are fit to return to work. When you return to duty you should REPORT TO THE RECTOR, and also bring with you your final medical certificate.
- HEADS OF DEPARTMENT SHOULD CONFIRM STAFF ABSENCE WITH THE SCHOOL OFFICE.
- Under the 21st Century Agreement, teachers who are not required to teach or cover classes, or undertake any other essential on-site task, may leave the school premises, managing that part of their 35 hour week in a flexible, professional manner.
Please check whether you will be needed for allocating cover, and then inform the School Office prior to leaving.
Any member of staff wishing to be off site first thing in a morning, must check with the Depute Rector allocating cover at 8.30am whether they might be needed in school.
A member of staff who is the parent of a child who suffers an emergency illness, may be granted up to a maximum of one day paid leave of absence to arrange care for their child.
