Staff Absence, Leave of Absence etc Staff who have been granted leave of absence to attend courses, appointments, etc should allocate work to their classes in order to keep them productively employed during their absence. A note of this work should be left for the supervising members of staff, normally the principal teacher or the most senior member of a department. Work set should also be recorded in advance in the Teacher's Planner and Record. If you are unable to attend school due to illness, please notify the school immediately, ideally by 8.30 am, and if possible, indicate how long your absence is likely to be. If you are off work between one and 7 calendar days , to preserve your entitlement to Statutory Sick Pay, you must obtain and complete the Moray Council SELF CERTIFICATION FORM which is available from the school office. If your absence lasts more than 7 calendar days , or as soon as you know you will be off for more than 7 days, you should let the school office know so that they can send you a self certification form. On the 8th day of absence you are required to get a medical certificate from your doctor, which you should forward to the school office without delay. Thereafter, continue to get sick notes from your doctor at regular intervals and forward them to the school until you are fit to return to work. When you return to duty you should REPORT TO THE SCHOOL OFFICE , and also bring with you your final medical certificate. HEADS OF DEPARTMENT SHOULD CONFIRM STAFF ABSENCE WITH THE SCHOOL OFFICE. Staff who wish to make arrangements to attend a meeting or any other form of out of school activity which is part of their professional role should inform their principal teacher and seek permission from the Rector. Principal teachers should seek permission from the Rector for all out of school meetings and activities. This procedure must be followed in order to ensure that information about staff absence, cover for classes and supply teaching arrangements are co-ordinated. Each morning the Rector completes a staff out-of-school form, copies of which are passed to the School Office and Depute Rector in order that cover can be arranged.
